Hosted by Marsha from Yes Yes Marsha

It’s a really lovely night, friendly and warm. There is a 20 minute interval, but quite a few people come on their own with a book or something, so if you fancy doing that, you won’t be the only one.

If you want to come early and grab some food, The Lakeview diner (est 1932) is a few steps away, with the best shakes (I love banana-vanilla) and sweet potato fries in Toronto. Also, The Garrison has tacos. TACOS.

Free entry. You’ll need to get there early to get a good seat (latecomers have to stand at the back).

Important news about the future of True Stories Told Live

6 Sep

Sweet True Stories Family!

Next show is Tues Sept 20th. Before then:

I have two big changes. Name change and price (/charging at all) change:

(1) NAME CHANGE.

When the show True Stories Told Live began, back in London in September, 2009, The Moth (the world’s biggest storytelling show) did not have a tagline. Now it does, and it’s the same as the name of our show. For a while, we soldiered on – legally, we were fine to use it, and we knew we hadn’t nicked it off them.

But people sometimes think we have. And that has become prevalent enough to be reason to want to change it.

From now on, we’re going to be called the name that is already our website address:

True Stories Toronto

There’ll be a small transition period, where you’ll see the words Told Live written small, or bracketed in places. Then, hopefully, it’ll stick.

(2) PRICE CHANGE

We ran as a free-entry show for years. Then we tried charging.

We liked – actually, LOVED – being able to pay our performers. We (and by “we”, I mean, I, me, Marsha) LOVED being able to pay our up-until-then-volunteers team.

But, for a variety of reasons, it’s not working for us.

So we’re going back to being a free show, with one exception:

Every year, our Halloween show, GHOST Stories Told Live Toronto, will be ticketed as a fundraiser for the rest of the year. There are a bunch of non-recuperable expenses in putting the show on (videographer, equipment, hours and hours and hours of unpaid work), so this’ll go some way to paying for those. In fact – tickets for this year’s Halloween show (on Sunday Oct 30th) are on sale now, HERE: https://ti.to/true-stories-told-live/ghost2016

See next post for details of the next show, which is Tues Sept 20th @ The Garrison!

xxMarsha

Next show in a Week & TSTL in the Toronto Star!

24 May

Next show is in one week! I’ve finished sitting down with the storytellers and the stories this month are AMAZING. I’m super-excited.

The show is Tuesday May 31st at The Garrison – tickets are $8.50 advance from THIS LINK HERE! Full details below.

First: we were in the bloody newspaper! It was very exciting. Journalist Zoe McKnight has (or maybe now had?) a crippling fear of public speaking, so she came and told a story, and then wrote about it. She said that the experience was “like a hit of dopamine” and that she “felt like [she] had won the lottery”, which is nice.

You can read the whole article, here:

https://www.thestar.com/life/2016/04/05/conquering-a-fear-of-public-speaking.html

and you can watch her story, here:

Below are full details for the show. See you on Tuesday!

PS if you’d like help crafting your own story – or get some free tips for how to be better at telling stories in general – this is what I do. I’ve just finished a 5-part blog series on how to tell better stories, over at yesyesmarsha.com
